Event Start Date: Wednesday, October 24, 2018 – 8:00 AM

Event End Date: Monday, January 13, 2020 – 10:00 PM

Event Description:

Certificate in Happiness Studies (CIHS)

The Certificate in Happiness Studies (CIHS) is a year-long online program that comprises two courses:
1. Introduction to Happiness Studies
2. Facilitating Happiness

The first course spans 26 weeks and includes 26 lectures and 13 webinars; the second also lasts 26 weeks and includes 14 lectures and 12 webinars. Lectures are pre-recorded so you can watch them at your convenience. Webinars are live, an opportunity for you to ask questions, but they are recorded so if you cannot attend the live event, you can always watch it later. Lectures and webinars are an hour long and are led entirely by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar.

Each week you will receive some homework—or homeplay as we like to call it—including guided meditations, visualization exercises, journaling activities, and more. The activities are designed to increase retention and assimilation of material, and most importantly, to help you become healthier and happier.

You should be prepared to invest at least three hours a week on all the tasks—including watching the lectures, participating in the webinars, and doing your homeplay.

The mission of the Happiness Studies Academy is to lead the happiness revolution, by educating leaders who are themselves dedicated to personal, interpersonal, and communal flourishing.

To realize our mission, we at HSA take a wholistic, interdisciplinary approach to teaching happiness—first in the way we define happiness, and second in the way we teach it. We define happiness as the experience of wholeperson wellbeing, or in short, the experience of wholebeing. The five elements essential to a life of wholebeing are:

Spiritual
Physical
Intellectual
Relational
Emotional

Taken together, these elements make up the acronym SPIRE, and indeed they inspire all of our programs—from our introductory lectures on happiness to the one-year Certificate in Happiness Studies.

To better understand, pursue, and attain wholebeing, it is not enough to explore each of the SPIRE elements through the lens of a single field—be it psychology or philosophy. Instead, we need to take an interdisciplinary approach, turn to psychology and philosophy, as well as to literature, history, economics, theology, biology and other disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach is aligned with our general wholistic approach—one that bridges rather than divides, unites rather than separates. We bridge and unite between:

Theory and practice
Reflection and action
Common sense and complexity
Ancient wisdom and modern research
The humanistic and the scientific
East and West
The rich content coupled with the unique way in which the content is taught, informs about the meaning and significance of happiness, as well as transforms and creates a better world.

Focusing on four ICF core competencies, this six-week, on-line course equips coaches with the core elements from Relational Presence (RP) training to increase their coaching effectiveness by expanding their capacity for presence.

In six, 90-minute interactive classes held over Zoom, coaches will learn a way of “being with” their clients that heightens trust and intimacy, enriches coaching presence, deepens active listening, and fine tunes direct communication.

Facilitators Tina Mertel and Pam Noda are PCC-level coaches and are certified in Relational Presence (also known as Speaking Circles®) Training. Experience has taught them that being in Relational Presence with clients is the ground of coaching wisdom. From there emerges a coach’s sense of what to say when and which skills/tools to apply. From there emerges a client’s inner knowing and call to action. This combination is what yields inspired coaching from the coach and inspired results for the client.

Coaches will leave this course with a fresh take on their way of “being with” clients that supports the ICF Core Competencies and prepared to use their newly expanded capacity for presence in full service of their clients.

Praise from recent graduates of Relational Presence for Coaches

“The course enlightened me to the deep subtleties of my responsibility in upholding the Core Competencies.”—L.K., MEd, LPC, ACC

“The training went beyond my expectations. . . . It taught me a lot about letting the moment happen by breathing through it rather than trying to make it happen.”—M.H., ACC

It (the course) will give you an opportunity to dig deeper within your coaching presence and tap into more of a profound way to connect, listen, engage, and coach your clients. —R.A., PCC

Leveraging the Enneagram Instincts For Higher Development: A Coaching Perspective

Friday, November 22, 2019 10:30 AM

Additional Training Dates:

Join Belinda Gore and Diana Redmond for this new teaching on how to use the Instincts in coaching – now offered in a live virtual format.

This course is designed to teach coaches how to guide their clients in accessing and balancing the three Instincts highlighted in Enneagram theory. During the five 90-minute sessions, you will have an opportunity to explore the varied expressions of Self-Preservation (Preserving), Sexual (Transmitting), and Social (Navigating) Instincts. Using elegantly designed experiential learning, you will have a direct experience of each Instinct as well as build tools for recognizing and trusting their embodiment.

1) Recognize each of the three Instincts and how they operate in yourself and your clients.
2) Develop tools for working with your clients to allow and integrate the instinctual drives for a balanced, fulfilled life.
3) Harness the power of the Instincts for the work of transformative growth.

No prior experience with the Enneagram is required.

Be Here Now - Mindfulness in Coaching Online Programme

Event Start Date: Monday, November 04, 2019 5:00 PM
Event End Date: Monday, December 09, 2019 7:00 PM

Learn powerful ‘mindfulness’ skills and techniques to take your professional coaching practice to deeper levels of mastery, clarity and confidence; and to significantly enhance your personal wellbeing and resilience. The programme provides 22 ICF CCE units (19 core competency and 3 resource development).

Why mindfulness in coaching?
Truly effective coaching relies on the quality of your awareness and presence – so you can ‘hold the space’ for the client’s process of enquiry, insight and change. Mindfulness is the most effective training to develop this. Cultivated through meditation and other simple exercises, mindfulness is about learning to pay attention in the present moment to yourself, others and your environment. Clinical research has proven the positive benefits of mindfulness for wellbeing, resilience and clarity of thought.

Who’s this programme for?
The programme is suitable for practising coaches of all kinds (life coaches, executive coaches, etc.) seeking greater depth of coaching practice. It’s particularly useful for ICF coaches seeking CCEUs for credential renewals.

What will I get?
You will develop greater levels of confidence, psychological flexibility and intuitive awareness to apply both to your coaching practice and your personal life. Put more simply, you will learn how to feel more present, centred and ‘tuned in’ – whatever you’re doing. To support the six live online sessions, the programme includes a comprehensive ‘workbook’ with essential background material on both mindfulness as a practice in its own right and its applications in coaching. You will also have access to a range of guided mindfulness meditations to practise in your own time.

Where and when
The training takes place over six live Zoom weekly 2-hour sessions (17.00-19.00 on Mondays 4 Nov – 9 Dec 2019), with two hours of ‘home practice’ (coaching in pairs, plus reading) in between each session. The programme is limited to eight participants to ensure sufficient attention is given to each participant.

What does the programme cover?

1. Mindfulness fundamentals – to enhance your own wellbeing, awareness and clarity of thought, as the basis for learning at the next two levels

2. ‘Explicit’ mindfulness in coaching – sharing with clients simple techniques and meditations, and using mindfulness-based reflections and questions

3. ‘Implicit’ mindfulness in coaching – mindfulness techniques to help manage yourself best as a coach; using mindfulness-based approaches and tools to deepen and sharpen all the ICF Core Competencies.

Session 1: Introducing mindfulness for both life and coaching
Session 2: Mindful awareness in coaching
Session 3: Working mindfully with thoughts in coaching
Session 4: Working mindfully with emotions in coaching
Session 5: Working mindfully with choice, decision and actions in coaching
Session 6: Taking mindfulness into your coaching future
