Coaching through Crisis: Every Coach’s Guide

Covid-19. Change. Uncertainty. Work-Life. Priorities. We, as coaches, are made for these times.

A guide to: Showing up /Reframing our work as coaches / Take Inventory of our toolbox to Coach in Crisis.

Learning Outcome:

In this session we will see that every ICF coach has the ability to coach through crisis. We will look at the following, along with how the 11 Competencies work to create supportive outcomes for our clients:

1. Define your audience: Who is your client and what support do they need most in these challenging times? What do they really want and need right now?

2. Know your toolbox: Taking an inventory of your coaching toolbox– Reframing/repurposing your top tools for your client’s biggest challenges today / Integrating less used tools that serve in times of uncertainty.

3. Know your stress threshold: Pandemics are stressful. Change is stressful. Crisis is stressful. Isolation is stressful. Managing our own practice through change and uncertainty is stressful. Learn about your own stress threshold, and create a concrete action plan for self care so that you can continue to hold space for your clients.

Speaker Name: Elena Espinal

We are living through a period of crisis of the coronavirus pandemic. Such black swan events bring up crisis points in our lives, which show us how we relate to uncertainty. Circumstances suddenly change without asking our permission. We cannot control circumstances nor can we choose them. But we always have the choice in how we relate and respond to circumstances.

In this webinar titled “Creating a new future beyond black swan events”, our facilitator, Elena Espinal, will share examples of how people can respond to such events, change mindsets and create new futures, applying the principles of Spiral Dynamics. In these moments of crisis, we do have the possibility of maturing in our conscience and in the complexity of our culture or instead go back to more primitive responses.

Objective:
To be able to respond to external major crisis event with the mindset of creating new opportunities and a new future.
Learning goals:
a) How you respond yourself and how you support your clients to respond effectively to major crisis events with the appropriate mindset.

ICF North Texas - “The Neuroscience of Coaching: Relevance, Retention, and Results”

Event Date: Tuesday, April 09, 2019 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Speaker Name: Ursula Pottinga

In this interactive webinar, Ursula Pottinga will be touching on three neuroscience components that will explain WHY coaching works – if it works in coaching, there is a neuroscience explanation for it! We will cover the neuroscience of change (neuroplasticity), which really means: neuroplasticity = coaching, the stress curve and how to effectively get back and stay “in the zone” and the balance of being and doing and what it means to activate both neural networks when you need them most!!! Why would you want to know this?

· Relevance – clients will learn how their brain operates which then creates sustainable outcomes for the client – even when you are not around. They will experience the impact and positive outcomes of a regulated brain.
· Retention – clients will stay with you longer since you are offering new tools, new information and a research-based rationale that change does not happen overnight (neuroplasticity). · Results – neuroscience normalizes the behavior and gives it a rational explanation of why we sometimes over-react, forget things, have lost all our empathy (and the car keys…!)

Speaker Bio:
Ursula Pottinga, CPCC, PCC is the co-founder of BEabove Leadership and is the co-developer/leader of its popular training program for advanced coaches: Neuroscience, Consciousness, and Transformational Coaching, currently available in the U.S, Canada, and the U.K., China, and Singapore. Building a coaching practice is not for the faint of heart.
Whether revenues are $50,000 or $500,000, practice owners are constantly being challenged to solve problems, choose the best strategies, clear mindset roadblocks, and push past fear to build their business. In this fun and engaging talk, participants explore three Power Principles from the Courage to Confidence (C2C) Model of Success©.

Blending visual presentation with story, live coaching, and interactive learning, they’ll learn how to move past temporary fears and into success in a way that brings results and builds resilience. The Model is remarkably user-friendly and practical, regardless of where students are in their business, from idea to start-up to established. It’s already been used to help practitioners across the U.S. and abroad to expand their practice and achieve new goals.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have their own personalized C2C Action Plan, knowing exactly what steps to take to move to the next level in their business.
And it’s fun – because audiences leave with a sense of clarity, empowerment and excitement about their growing success.

Participants will…
1. Gain an overview of the 7-Step Courage-to-Confidence (C2C) Model© for reaching success in any endeavor.
2. Identify and explore three deceptively simple – yet remarkably effective – Power Principles of the Model, learning how to overcome obstacles and reach increasing success as a small business/coaching practice owner.
3. Discover the single most effective action they can take to ensure forward momentum whether they’re just starting their practice or taking it to the next level.
4. Practice identifying and implementing those principles, then develop a personalized C2C Action Plan for their next level of success.

We really don’t know what the future holds. We do know that things are changing at an exponential rate and it simply is not possible to keep up with all changes in all industries. How do we manage the rate of change?

VPD via Zoom Webinar with Christina Gerakiteys, Singularity University Australia
Our real potential is undiscovered and unlimited. Our potential as individuals and as a community reveals itself a little more every day. There are limitless examples where impossible has become possible.

** From a tiny office, Amazon grew.
** From an idea to send a compact disc in the mail, Netflix was born.
** From a dream to create the happiest place on earth, Disneyland was imagined and created.
Technology is advancing at rates never before thought possible. As we converge differing technologies, as the rate of the new becomes unfathomable, Exponential Technologies are opening up opportunities never before imagined. The question is – what role will you play? And how will you play it?
Together we will explore the exponential speed of change and our capacity for change. And more.
3 Key Learning Takeaways
To arrive at the future, we must transform mindset
We are entering an era of continuous learning as opposed to being given an education.
We are at a crossroads. Now is our time to discover the place where human values intersect with the value of technology to create a better world for all.

ICF Wisconsin - Life Coaching Isn’t Just for Grownups – Three Skills Every Child Should Learn Before the Age of 10

Event Date: Thursday, April 23, 2020 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM

Speaker Name: Renaye Thornborrow

When faced with challenges or disappointments, most kids don’t have the tools to handle them. As a result, they often get down on themselves or give up on themselves – developing belief systems that can hold them back for the rest of their lives. As coaches, we’ve seen the impact of childhood events on adult clients over-and-over again!
Coaching isn’t just for grownups. It’s a game changer for our youth when they learn how to break through limiting beliefs and proactively create supportive beliefs to help them thrive. Life coaching can help kids learn how to use the power of their thoughts to handle the ups and downs of growing up and to develop a mindset for creating happiness, confidence, and success in life.
In this session coaches will learn about three mindset skills that all kids should learn before the age of 10 and how they can use stories and activities to coach kids (the skills work for grownup clients too).

This is for you if:
You are a parent or have kids in your life
You have clients who are parents
You work with kids or want to work with kids

Learning Objectives
1. Why life coaching is critical for our youth
2. Three mindset skills to help kids (and grownups) overcome disappointment and move forward empowered
3. How you can use stories to evoke awareness, learning, and action in kids

The skills and demonstration behaviors of the 4 specific competencies are used as the discussion framework in order to reveal to the audience how to most fully utilize this framework to increase client ownership, accountability and actionable learning for desired forward momentum.

Our purpose is to break the habit of defaulting to consulting, mentoring or educating because that is what the client asked for instead of trusting the coaching process fully and being coach as the pathway to reinstate client authority to invite and navigate the change they desire.

Invite dialogue among the community of coaches to examine the internal motivators for how practitioners engage a client system more effectively ~ contracting, creating psychological safety, partnering for growth, creating awareness of actionable insight ~ that truly maximizes potential rather than react to assumptive reality as the truth.

Session Objectives:
Awareness of habit and attachments to the definition of value and contribution that is possible in any client engagement
Application of four specific core competencies to generate greater effectiveness in contracting, partnering, psychological safety and ownership to drive actionable awareness with clients who operate inside of government systems.
– Application of CC#2, Establishing the Coaching Agreement, to the contracting process in order to evoke expanded ownership by leaders for how to show up and fully partner
– Application of CC#3, Building Trust & Intimacy, to the best practice for creating psychological safety in a public sector, human system.
– Application of CC #4, Coaching Presence, to provoke a partnership that challenges habit in favor of accessing innate creativity that generates effective evolution.
– Application of CC #8, Creating Awareness, to explore beyond information toward the meaningful underlying habits, assumptions and bias that blocks forward movement.
