George Nuthu is a Leadership Coach and Consultant based in Nairobi, Kenya. Key discussion points from the event are:

How ICF’s values determined the parameters for ICF’s Code of Ethics

Consideration of cultural differences concerning ethics

Complexities of confidentiality in rapidly growing technological societies

Challenges facing coaches within organizations. For example, the coach is ultimately responsible for upholding confidentiality/privacy — what happens when non-ICF support staff has access to the information?

Expectations of ICF coaches when fellow coaches are not representing their credentials truthfully

Discussion around coaching session ethical dilemmas

Please take advantage of this unique opportunity to share an ethical dilemma or question from your Coaching Practice for George to address in this webinar.

ICF Houston - The Positive and Practical Role of Bias in Coaching @ HESS Club

Event Date: Monday, February 03, 2020 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Speaker Name: Teresa Pool

Bias plays a crucial role in coaching, one worth acknowledging and exploring. It is the often-unconscious presence in each coaching session and competency. This program will be a journey into the intersection of coach and client bias and how much we can learn there. We will discover the amazing breadth of biases at play and how these can influence and inform our coaching approach. Coaching mastery is dependent on our ability to be aware of biases on both sides of the coaching relationship and embrace them as a positive and practical force for good!

What You Can Expect to Learn:

Coaching Presence – gaining new awareness of our own biases and how they unconsciously influence our coaching presence

Active Listening – applying our listening skills to both self and client in order to be conscious of the bias intersection

Direct Communication – flexing our approach to meet the client’s unique needs aligned with their internal biases (and not our own)

Coaching for Self Leadership will introduce coaches to Internal Family Systems (IFS), a model of the human psyche that helps coaches and their clients grow up emotionally and wake up spiritually.

This 4 part webinar series will explore the six fundamental insights of Coaching for Self Leadership, an adaptation of IFS for coaches:
The human mind is naturally multiple. Because of this, coaches need to know how to distinguish among their clients’ parts or subpersonalities. Some parts are aligned with goals; others are not.
All parts are good. This means that coaches must welcome and respect all parts of their clients, even those parts that appear to block their clients from achieving stated goals.
We are Self. Self is the calm, confident, and compassionate core of every human being. When coaches access their own core and introduce a client’s parts to the client’s core, transformation happens.
The goal of all coaching is Self leadership. A Self-led person can manage all their internal subpersonailties, which may have different ideas of what success and happiness look like.
The internal world is system. Parts, or subpersonalities, live in a relational world. Coaches need to understand how parts of their client’s minds relate to each other in order to be effective.
The keys to happiness are held by the most vulnerable parts. The most tender and vulnerable parts of the human psyche are the ones that need to be accepted by Self before other parts of the psyche can relax enough to allow for transformation.

Coaching for Self Leadership provides a clear map of the human psyche, a method for working with the psyche’s many parts, and a way of life that leads to deep and lasting transformation for both coach and client.

Most coaches have found that their basic coach training allows them to help clients begin to make some changes in behavior but that deeper change is elusive. Coaching for Self Leadership will help coaches and their clients transform safely and deeply, that is, to grow up and wake up.

Key Learning Objectives:

Introduce a map of the psyche that explains why clients often resist change that they know is in their own best interest.
Show coaches how to work with parts of the psyche that may block change.
Give coaches a North Star for every coaching session.
Teach coaches a gentle, respectful, collaborative method of working with clients of all ages and stages.
Increase the coach’s access to their calm, confident, and creative core.

Guthrie Sayen, PhD, PCC, created and leads the ICF-accredited coach training program at The Graduate Institute; he has created multiple advanced coaching courses for Leadership That Works, an ICF-accredited coaching school; and he has trained coaches for the True Purpose Institute. In his private practice, Guthrie mentors coaches at all stages of their careers and works with wounded healers, helping them do for themselves what they are called to do for others. He also helps seekers come into the presence of the Divine, so that they can live their true purpose.

Bern - “The fifteen frames of mind” or Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Action @ Zytfaenschter Bern

Event Date: Tuesday, February 18, 2020 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Speaker Name: Marina Riedi

Description

The title: “The fifteen frames of mind” or Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Action

The idea that people are rarely emotionally affected by external events but rather by their thinking about such events goes back to ancient Stoic philosophers. And yet, even to this day we can find ourselves thinking about a particular situation in a way that catches us in an emotional trap of anger, frustration, or sadness.

One way out is to look at the situation from different perspectives and adopt those that are beneficial to our emotional well-being and help us achieve our goals. In this workshop you will experience the perspective-taking process and apply it to a situation in your own life. You will reflect on how different frames of mind influence your emotional state.

The workshop introduces the concept of Emotional Intelligence and provides an opportunity to practice two techniques for handling emotions and to see for yourself the interplay between thoughts and emotions. These are techniques you will be able to apply not only for yourself but also for your clients.

Join this interactive workshop to tap into “The fifteen frames of mind” and learn about Emotional Intelligence in Action.

Objectives

At the workshop you will:
– Be introduced to the definition of Emotional Intelligence and the main components involved in this concept.
– Learn about the two-dimensional map of emotions and how to use it to train emotional self-awareness.
– Understand the fifteen frames of mind through which you can perceive a situation and train your ability to take different perspectives.
– Reflect on a situation that is relevant to you and contemplate how EI can support you in handling emotions effectively.

ICF Core Competencies

• Creating Awareness
• Powerful Questioning
• Designing Actions

Prerequisite /Homework: Please, bring a situation along, in which you didn’t meet your own or somebody else’s expectations and as a result felt angry, frustrated, or sad.

ICF Georgia - Super Charge Your Coaching Effectiveness by Really Knowing Your Client’s CoreSELF!

Event Date: Wednesday, February 19, 2020 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM

Speaker Name: Peter J. Reding

It has been estimated that over 98% of the world’s population do not have a satisfactory answer to: A) “Who am I?” and B) “How can I feel a deep and personal sense of fulfillment?”. The answers for these most fundamental Human needs have not been answered by assessment instruments.
When the profession of coaching was born in 1995 – the coach’s role was established to support the coaching client’s awareness of what the client wanted to achieve, what the client was ready, willing and able to commit to do (and to be) to move forward towards and fulfill the client’s desired aspirations.

The profession of coaching to a great degree, has delivered on this promise.

My deeper question (and life-long exploration) is “Whose aspiration? Whose desired goal? Is the client chasing?” Is the goal or aspiration really their own or is it an adopted goal/aspiration? Has this goal or aspiration come from an external influence? Has it been examined at a conscious level and is it anchored in the client’s inner most driving-force to fulfill their very existence?

When the client does not know who they really are – they have no way to answer or know if this goal or aspiration will fulfill them to the core of their being.

Come and learn how you can now support your coaching client to consciously determine if THIS or THAT aligns with their CORE, and to what degree IT aligns; and further . . . what and how could support greater alignment!

Speaking to groups is the number one way to build a coaching practice, but only if who you’re being in front of the room is as present, authentic, and sincere as when you’re interacting with clients. But, what’s the key to making it happen?

Never stop being a coach! Apply the same core competencies to speaking as you do to your coaching. Create a safe and supportive environment in your room that honors your audience’s agenda. When you’re open and flexible in the moment, you create a dynamic synergy with your audience.

In this highly interactive and thought-provoking presentation, you will learn:

· How to manifest a presence that’s warm and genuine while being profoundly audience-focused and intensely purposeful.

· How the message you send goes beyond the words you speak.

· What goes into creating a compelling, interactive presentation that evokes insight and encourages people to expand their thinking.

· How to provide masterful coaching as you engage audience members.

· How to make an offer from the stage that speaks to the needs of your audience members and lands like an opportunity for further exploration and growth … and how to stay unattached as you do it!

Speaker Name: Carl Sanders-Edwards

What challenges do you face as a leader, or developer of leaders, that you wish you were better prepared for?

Virtual PD with Carl Sanders-Edwards
Coaching is one of the biggest opportunities of our generation.

The fourth industrial revolution is/has changed how we work. Organizations have moved from hierarchies that are optimized for stability and control from the top to networks that are optimized for autonomy and rapid response to complex environment.

This changes what people do and how they work.

We spoke to a large bank recently who shared that 30% of the job description for a bank teller was identical to that of their senior executives. 10 years ago they had 0% overlap.

Therefore everyone needs; to show initiative, decide in ambiguity, learn rapidly, innovate. Leadership isn’t a position or role, it’s essential for everyone regardless of position or role.

Leadership development is no longer just for high potentials or for senior executives. It is for everyone. Coaching is an extremely effective way of helping develop and support leaders but how can we scale coaching in a world where potentially billions of people should be coached?

This session will explore this question and share how different organizations and technologies are seeking to answer it. We will have a particular focus on the role of human coaches in this world of increasingly capable AI and Machine Learning.

ICF Bern - “The impact of language diversity on establishing the coaching agreement.” @ Zytfaenschter Bern

Event Date: Monday, March 16, 2020 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Speaker Name: Rossella Pin

Description

Titel: “The impact of language diversity on establishing the coaching agreement.”

Cultural differences are recorded in the language. As virtual coaching is gaining popularity worldwide, the need of taking into consideration opportunities and challenges offered by coaching in a non-native language is becoming more and more significant to guarantee the respect of language and coaching diversity.

Can coaching in a non-native language impact establishing a clear coaching agreement?

Effective, direct communication is the foundation of the coaching session. As coaches, we must thoroughly inquire and explore how our clients are interpreting the components of the partnership as framed in the markers of this Core Competency.

A recent survey conducted in a global learning community highlighted some of the challenges of establishing the agreement without clarity and/or a full exploration of what the client means when committing to the agreement. As a result, the coaching session could lose impact and effectiveness. The survey also provided insight on coach’s need for specific training and strategies for managing the coach-client relationship in a diverse language context.

Participants will be engaged in a real-time survey and a coaching demo.

Objectives

The intended outcome of the workshop is to learn and understand
• The impact of language diversity on establishing the coaching agreement
• Common pitfalls and challenges emerged from the global survey
• The Language Diversity Coaching Model
• The Language Inclusion Coaching Model

ICF Georgia - Coaching from Authentic Presence Be Sovereign

Event Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2020 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Speaker Name: Janet M. Harvey

Coaching, the coaching construct, the framework of the competencies provides the vehicle for clients to step into a different quality of dialogue then usually occurs in daily life. The coaching exchange is one that is 100% on the client’s behalf, with the coach listening and engaging and being curious without an agenda that is different from exactly what that client is yearning for in any part of life.

This session will reveal why what we do as coaches works, rather than from an academic point of view to one based in practice focused on our sentience, intuition, instinctive awareness and spontaneous experience. The exploration will strengthen capacity to recognize what is occurring in the partnership with a client when it is at its most poignant and empowering.

The only way to truly reveal insight is to allow ourselves to soften our grip on the things we find comfortable and familiar. Our intention together is to disturb our habits and stimulate curiosity and reveal insights about who you are and what your authentic presence might be. Truthfully, our greatest contributions to clients is to be able to see them beyond what is presented as their current state of expertise and knowledge and instead to see the wholeness, the resource and capability not yet tapped. We are agents of a change process that begins with us individually to perceive the desire our clients have to change and then invite that revelation in every session.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Disturb Habit
2. Stimulate Curiosity
3. Reveal Insight
