Functional Medicine Coaching Academy Health Coaching Program

The Functional Medicine Health Coaching Academy (FMCA) is a health coaching program established in collaboration with The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). The Functional Medicine Health Coaching program offers a curriculum that blends the principles of Functional Medicine with positive psychology coaching skills and mind-body medicine. The program includes a supervised practicum and is taught by IFM faculty and leaders in positive psychology coaching. The program is an Approved Transition Program per the ICHWC standards. Health and wellness coaches who have met ICHWC’s requirements and completed the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, Inc. program will qualify to sit for the ICHWC exam.

The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy curriculum integrates the art of coaching with principles of Functional Medicine, nutrition, the psychology of eating, mind-body medicine and positive psychology. Continued development of coaching core competencies within this context is emphasized. Learning centers around case studies and personal exploration. We emphasize practical application of concepts so that you graduate with the knowledge, skills and confidence to apply these concepts effectively.

Monthly modules consist of webinars and interviews with Institute for Functional Medicine faculty and certified practitioners, experts in mind-body medicine and positive psychology, and leaders in coaching. Content is delivered through webinars and activities on Canvas, a cloud-based learning management system. Modules are released monthly and students may work at their own pace to complete discussions, quizzes, case studies, and assignments. The program is one year long. In the first half of the program, content is focused on theory and core competencies. In the second half, there are less webinars and the focus shifts to the completion of the practicum. The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy has the benefit of providing a Coaching Center in which clients enroll for coaching sessions by students. Practicum supervision is also required and students must attend 10 of 12 supervision sessions. A final case study is presented at the end of the practicum. Students will also complete a final exam.

Learning Objectives:

1. Continued development of fundamental coaching competencies as set forth by the International Consortium for Health and Wellness Coaches (ICHWC).
2. Meet Professional and Ethical Standards, as set forth by the International Consortium for Health and Wellness Coaches (ICHWC).
3. Demonstrate effective use of the positive psychology model of coaching to engage clients and inspire them to initiate and sustain lifestyle changes.
4. Demonstrate understanding of Functional Medicine (FM) and apply it as a theoretical framework to educate and guide clients.
5. Demonstrate understanding of functional nutrition and know how to appropriately use the various food plans.
6. Acquire knowledge of psychology of eating principles to help clients understand the myriad influences on their food choices and eating behaviors.
7. Incorporate a variety of mind-body techniques and be able to personalize them for clients.

“Coaching the x-Preneur” is for coaches who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the Core Competency area of Facilitating Learning and Results, focusing on 9) Designing Actions, 10) Planning and Goal Setting, and 11) Managing Progress and Accountability. The course will be of particular interest to coaches who specialize in working with clients who are aspiring, new, or established entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, solo-preneurs, mum-preneurs – you fill in the “x”! These aspiring and new entrepreneurs include Baby Boomers who are retiring and starting their own “encore career” businesses. According to a Gallup poll, as high as 83% of baby boomers are starting “encore careers.” (Business Journal, 2015) Additional research reveals that many new businesses fail because the new entrepreneur attempts to do everything himself, without help or support. The areas of goal setting, designing actions, monitoring, and accountability are of particular vulnerability for aspiring and new x-Preneurs. Having a knowledgeable coach may be the best source of professional development to avoid failure rates of nearly half of businesses within five years and 66% within ten years. Cohort limited to 12 participants.

Whether in individual, leadership or group organizational coaching having a strong background in values based decision making can assist you with clients in many meaningful ways.

Individual core values influence people, groups and organizations both subconsciously and overtly. When someone has a strong understanding of how values guide decisions and actions, that awareness can open up a strong methodology of decision making that helps eliminate worry – allowing people to be more at peace with the choices they make -vs- worrying about how multiple choices might play out. They make the decision with more strength and conviction eliminating the need to worry about what might happen if they go down one path vs another. It can also be a strong way to reduce conflict in a group that may have difficulty making decisions.

Increase your own awareness and fine tune your knowledge of core competencies around values based decision making with this continuing coach education course from The Elevar Group designed specifically for credentialed coaches.

Each class module builds upon the previous one and requires each participant to coach and be coached and discuss their individual experiences with current and past coaching clients and scenarios.

Event Description:

The Skill-Building Intensive offers students the opportunity to develop fluency and confidence in the steps, skills, and techniques used to help others successfully pursue goals for positive change in their life, work, health, and relationships. This course includes extensive demonstrations and practice sessions, in which students rotate the roles of coach, client, and observer. Together, we will work through each step of the CHANGE model for helping others (and ourselves) to create lasting, meaningful change.

We offer this course in two formats: online and on-site. Students pursuing WBI’s Positive Psychology Coaching Certification can choose either option to satisfy this part of their course requirements.

Online Option
➤ Spring Session: June 23, 30, July 7, 14, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm ET
➤ Fall Session: October 27, November 3, 10, 17, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm ET
The online option is held on four consecutive Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Eastern Time. Each day of the program, we alternate between coming together for demonstrations, separating into triads to practice the demonstrated skills, taking breaks for reflection and self-care, and repeating the sequence with different skills. We’ve designed the program to be highly energetic and varied, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to practice these great skills while interacting with different people in different ways throughout each class session.
Attendance requirement: Because all peer practice is integrated into the Saturday sessions, live online attendance is required for all four sessions.
The online option is available only to students who have completed Positive Psychology Coaching Fundamentals.

Developing the skill of mindfulness is the key to being a masterful coach. Applying mindfulness to the coaching conversation increases your ability to have deeper more impactful conversations that provide greater value to your clients.

Developing mindfulness will give you a greater ability to:

Connect with the client and establish a deeper level of trust and intimacy,
Use powerful questions and clarification to create awareness,
Clarify the underlying themes or patterns in the coaching conversation,
Listen at a deeper level for the subtle nuances in the conversation,
Use intuition to create awareness,
Connect with your own style of coaching,
Communicate clearly with the client,
Feel more relaxed and confident coaching, and
Ensure the client feels truly heard at a deep level.

The unique part of this online program is that it is interactive in a small group based learning environment. We include a weekly call via zoom video conferencing with a maximum of 16 participants, so you can share your insights, challenges and receive the support of a group. Mindfulness takes time to develop and we often need someone to guide us on the journey, so this program provides that extra support through the group calls and mentoring. You also will be connecting with other participants from around the world, in between the group calls.

Included in the program:
• 9 webinars x 1.5 hours each plus optional 30 minutes group mentoring after each call
• Mindfulness practices on audio and in transcript

Positivity can be contagious. Every situation has an upside and a downside; the yin and the yang, the good and the bad.
The ICF core competencies help to draw out positivity in ourselves as coaches in order to serve any client, but some people are predisposed to see the glass half-empty; they focus on past bad experiences rather than the positive things they learned along the way. They worry about the “what ifs” of situations they have no control over, rather than saying “this is what I CAN do” and focusing on the upside of a situation.
Much work has been done around the relationship of positive psychology and coaching. Increase your own awareness and fine tune your knowledge of core competencies around The Power of Positivity with this continuing coach education course from The Elevar Group designed specifically for credentialed coaches.
Each class module builds upon the previous one and requires each participant to coach and be coached and discuss their individual experiences with current and past coaching clients and scenarios.

Event Start Date: Tuesday, July 10, 2018 – 3:00 PM

Event End Date: Tuesday, November 13, 2018 – 5:00 PM

Event Description:

“Coaching the x-Preneur” is for coaches who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the Core Competency area of Facilitating Learning and Results, focusing on 9) Designing Actions, 10) Planning and Goal Setting, and 11) Managing Progress and Accountability. The course will be of particular interest to coaches who specialize in working with clients who are aspiring, new, or established entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, solo-preneurs, mumpreneurs – you fill in the “x”!

Conflict Dynamics Profile® (CDP) Certification - Atlanta, GA @ Courtyard by Marriott | Atlanta | Georgia | United States

Event Date: Friday, July 13, 2018 – 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Event Description:

This one-day certification program is a great opportunity to develop expertise in the CDP while connecting with other practitioners. The shared experience brings seasoned and passionate conflict practitioners from all over the world to learn about the CDP’s development, interpretation, and applications.

The Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP), an assessment instrument measuring conflict behaviors, is an excellent resource to increase self-awareness and improve conflict management skills. The CDP is unlike any other assessment tool in that it focuses specifically on conflict behaviors, rather than styles. It helps individuals and teams understand how they respond to conflict, what triggers can escalate conflict, and how to manage conflict more effectively.

Two versions of the instrument—the CDP-Individual (CDP-I) and CDP-360— emphasize an action-oriented approach which leads to real improvement. A thorough Development Guide provides information and tips for coping with conflict and building strong interpersonal relationships.

The CDP-360 enables you to compare your own perceptions about how you behave during conflict with those of your colleagues. It provides a complete “conflict profile” with feedback from bosses, peers, and direct reports. The CDP-360 is particularly helpful for leaders, managers, and high-potential employees for whom conflict can be particularly challenging.

In addition to feedback on 15 scales, both versions of the CDP have a unique “hot buttons” section which identifies the emotional triggers that negatively impact relationships.
